The majority of the story is set in and all over the Aokigahara Forest, a forest at the northwest foundation of Mount Fuji in Japan known as a well known place for the suicidal.
Sara Value (Natalie Dormer), an American lady, receives a phone simply call from the Japanese law enforcement telling her that they consider her troubled twin sister Jess is lifeless, as she was noticed likely into Aokigahara forest. Regardless of the issues of her fiancé, Rob (Eoin Macken), she journeys to Japan and comes at the resort where her sister was keeping.
At her resort, Sara satisfies a reporter named Aiden (Taylor Kinney). They consume collectively, and she tells him of her parents’ death in a drunk driving incident, which her sister witnessed, but Sara did not. Aiden invites her to go into the forest with him and a park manual, Michi, so she can appear for her sister.
As the three enter Aokigahara, Michi tells Sara that Jess has most possible killed herself. Deep in the woods, the team discovers a yellow tent that Sara acknowledges as Jess’s. With dusk approaching, Michi indicates they depart a be aware for Jess and depart. Sara refuses, and Aiden volunteers to remain with her by the night time.
That night time, Sara hears rustling in the bushes and, believing it may possibly be Jess, rushes into the woods after them. Sara finds a Japanese female, Hochiko, who claims to know Jess. The female warns Sara not to trust Aiden and flees at the audio of his voice. Sara tries to chase after her but falls and loses her.
The upcoming day, Aiden and Sara come to be missing and get started to wander all over the forest. As they wander, Sara’s suspicions are raised and she requires Aiden to give her his phone and finds a photograph of Jess on it. Aiden denies any involvement with Jess, but Sara operates into the forest alone. When working she begins to hear voices telling her to convert all over. She seems to be unfazed by this right up until she hears the voice immediately driving her. She turns all over to see a hanging body and continues to run absent. She then falls into an underground cave and goes unconscious, later she wakes up and discovers that she is in the cave with Hochiko, who turns out to be a yūrei. Hochiko then turns into what seems to be a “demonic figure”. Sara then operates the reverse way toward what seems to be Aiden. Aiden finds her and helps her out of the cave and, with some convincing, they go on to wander collectively.
